Restorative Dentistry

The Mildura Dental Group offers state of the art restorative technologies to transform your mouth back to its original health, function and beauty.

Your teeth can be restored with ease, using the latest procedures and materials that the dental industry has to offer.

Tooth Coloured Fillings
As well as being cosmetically more attractive the amalgam (metal) fillings, tooth-coloured fillings can give the tooth itself greater strength and longevity.

Amalgam fillings do not bond to your tooth, so every time you bite or chew the tooth and the filling flex away from each other microscopically. While the movement is only very small, over time the constant flexing causes cracks to develop within the tooth itself.

Once cracks develop in the tooth it is only a matter of time before part of the tooth fractures. This has most likely happened to someone you know!

At the Mildura Dental Group we offer two kinds of tooth-coloured restorations – RESIN and CERAMIC.

Both materials are bonded directly to the tooth structure, and look and feel like your natural tooth. CEREC is extremely long lasting tooth coloured porcelain material and is the material of choice by dentists for their own mouths.

We will assist you in deciding which option is best for you. If you suspect any of your teeth may be cracked or broken, or you would like to know more about changing your amalgam fillings, please contact the Mildura Dental Group to schedule an appointment.

Crowns
A crown (also known as a cap by some) is like a helmet that goes over the entire tooth, across the top, down the sides and binds it all together. This stops further cracks and tooth breakages and by providing very good retention, is a long term solution to a broken down tooth.

The team at the Mildura Dental Group is able to rebuild badly broken down teeth and recreate the natural contours and colour of the original tooth.

Bridges / Implants
Where natural teeth are missing, the Mildura Dental Group highly recommend tooth replacement to prevent long term dental concerns.

Bridges are a good method of replacing a missing tooth. A dental bridge is a false tooth, known as a pontic, which is fused between two crowns to fill in the area left by the missing tooth. The two crowns holding it in place are attached onto your teeth on each side of the false tooth.

Bridges are a permanent tooth replacement option, and are fixed in place. One or more missing teeth can be replaced by a bridge.

The bridge is certainly a much better alternative to a partial denture or having no tooth replacement at all. However, it does have certain disadvantages compared to a dental implant.

Dental Implants
Dental implants are certainly the way to go for gaps where you may have lost or have teeth missing. Contact Dr Jamie on jharris@milduradentist.com.au for your free  10 page report

  Bridges Dental Implant
Preparation - This involves removing healthy tooth structure from the two adjacent teeth. - This does not affect the adjacent teeth.
Necessary Appointments - You will wear temporary crowns while your bridge is being manufactured. This process takes 2 weeks. - Some dental implants can be fitted completely in one appointment.
Longevity - Bridges typically last between 15 and 20 years. - Implants provide a lifetime replacement.
Maintenance - Bridges can prove challenging to floss. - Implants can be brushed and flossed as normal.

Dental Implants

"Would you like to get rid of gaps or annoying false teeth?"

Where natural teeth are missing, the Mildura Dental Group highly recommends tooth replacement to prevent long term dental concerns.

Dental implants are often the most ideal method of replacing a missing tooth. They can be used to replace a single missing tooth or many missing teeth.

There are many reasons why people choose dental implants. Missing teeth can be unpleasant. Gaps may make it difficult to chew and when a tooth is removed the remaining teeth can collapse into the space leading to even bigger problems.

False teeth are often not the answer because many people find them very uncomfortable. Dental implants are a fixed, solid solution for missing teeth in many situations.

A dental implant consists of two parts: a small titanium fixture placed in the upper or lower jaw, and a crown restoration attached to the fixture above the gum. This replaces the missing tooth. The fixture bonds with the bone over time, acting as an anchor for the replacement tooth.

Dental implants offer numerous benefits.

  • An implant offers a long-lasting solution, often for life.
  • You can eat your favourite foods in comfort and confidence – implants are like natural teeth because they are anchored securely in your jaw.
  • You will experience a perfect fit and perfect smile – it is impossible to distinguish a real tooth from the crown restoration.
  • An implant eliminates the need to modify health teeth – the preparation of two adjacent teeth to anchor a bridge removes healthy tooth structure.

A dental implant is a life-long investment. Our team will give you extensive support and assistance should you wish to begin this ideal method of tooth replacement. Please contact the Mildura Dental Group to schedule an appointment.

Custom Mouth Guards
Any time you are playing a contact sport, it is essential that you wear a protective mouthguard.

The kind of injuries experienced by players of contact sport can result in significant tooth discomfort and long term dental concerns. Unprotected teeth can fracture, or fall out completely when the face and mouth area is hit by an object or another player.

Front teeth also have the potential to pierce the tongue or lower lip – not a pleasant experience!

Many different kinds of mouthguards are available. Many people are aware of pharmacy-bought mouthguards, which soften in hot water and mould to the shape of the teeth.

These mouthguards offer a degree of protection, but still will allow certain types of dental injuries to occur. They fit poorly and cover only the teeth.

Custom mouthguards, available at the Mildura Dental Group, are thicker and stronger that pharmacy-bought mouthguards. They not only protect your teeth, but your soft tissues as well – your lips and gums. They offer full mouth protection.

Custom mouthguards are designed on an individual basis, and can be manufactured in a variety of colours. If you play for a team, you mouthguard can show your team colours!

If your play a contact sport, and currently DON'T have a custom mouthguard, please contact the Mildura Dental Group to schedule an appointment.

We'd like to prevent those dental emergencies from the very beginning!
