| CEREC
Now we can place a ceramic restoration (filling) in one appointment!
Ceramic restorations (also referred to as inlays and onlays) strengthen cracked and broken teeth for the long term.
They are the most ideal option to protect your chewing teeth, because of their:
- Longevity their lifespan can exceed 20 years.
- Strength ceramic can easily withstand biting forces.
- Bonding ceramic and tooth bond to each other excellently. By comparison, amalgam (metal) fillings do NOT bond to tooth structure.
- Appearance ceramic has similar properties to your tooth, and so appears very natural.
Ceramic restorations are metal-free, biocompatible, anti-abrasive and plaque resistant.
The system we use to create ceramic restorations is called CEREC. It can also be used to create ceramic crowns.
CEREC comprises a computerised software system, used to design your restoration,
and a milling unit, used to manufacture your restoration. CEREC utilises CAD-CAM technology
(Computer Assisted Design, Computer Assisted Manufacture).
Traditionally, a dentist would take an impression of your teeth and crowns were made in a
laboratory, a process taking up to a couple of weeks and several appointments.
CEREC allows this process to be done in one appointment and ensures a perfect
fit and colour for your tooth first time. The Mildura Dental Group is one of only a few dental
practices that offer the option of CEREC to their clients.
This treatment option has become one of our most requested and successful procedures. In the
convenience of the comfortable dental chair you are able to watch your tooth being designed on
the computer and then created in the milling unit.
An outline of the procedure
Digital Impression
After examining the tooth and determining the course of treatment, we will prepare your tooth for restoration, similarly to traditional treatment methods. Your prepared tooth will be coated with a safe, tasteless powder. CEREC then uses a state-of-the-art digital 3D camera to create an optical impression. This digital image replaces the physical impression required in traditional procedures. No more long waits while a tray of impression goop hardens in your mouth.
Computer Aided Design (CAD)
State-of-the-art CAD software allows us to design every precise detail of your restoration with the precision you've come to expect from us. The software allows us to customize the shape of the restoration to exactly fit your specific clinical needs.
Mill and Place
Exact design specifications are sent to our on-site milling machine to create your restoration while you wait. About 20 minutes later, your all-ceramic, colour-matched restoration is ready for placement. Your new restoration is then fitted, polished and bonded for permanence. Your tooth is restored back to its natural form, function and beauty.
No doubt everyone in one way or another has heard something horrible or painful about Root Canal Treatment.
Well those days are long gone due to modern technology and a fancy little instrument called a ProTaper which Dr Jamie and Dr Doug uses in their RCT procedures. The ProTaper makes the dental appointment 40% faster, less painful and more comfortable for the patient.
Built upon the success of the ProTaper range, the Universal system has been enhanced and expanded and is one of the most simple, efficient and safe systems for root canal treatment on the market today.
The ProTaper enables Dr Jamie and Dr Doug to do Root Canal Treatment more precise and as pain free as possible. In some cases the RCT can be done in 1 appointment rather than 3 to 4 when combined with the lasers.
